I've noticed a lot of the gear lists in another forum here do not include a bear bagging device (though I know it is area specific). I nearly always have to run up my food if not to deter bears – to deter squirrels, mice, etc.
I'm using either 25 or 50' pieces of nylon (I believe) rope from Wal-Mart. Depends on where I'm going as to what length I need. Weighs in at 5 oz (for the 50').
Willing to live with 5oz since I'm not required to use a bear cannister (yet). But, is there anything lighter out there? I'm thinking parachute cord which I think I can get my hands on…
Any thoughts?
