Check out LWgear.com- they have ground sheets that weigh next to nothing and are very long and wide. Goodluck

I've tried different approaches to ground sheets and this is what I have observed.

2 mil plastic painters drop cloth, $3-$4 for a 9'x12' from Home Depot. Makes multiple ground sheets so costs <$2 per groundsheet. It's water proof but can be punctured very easily. Weighs the same as 1.1 oz coated silnylon.

1.1 oz coated silnylon. Actual weight 1.4 oz/SY with coating. Cost about $12 for typical 2 person tent (buy seconds). If used alone, your body pressure could sqeeze a few drops of water through is on wet ground but under a tent floor, I'd consider is waterproof. Much more puncture resistant than 2 mil plastic.

Tyvek Homewrap weighs about 2.2 oz/SY. Costs $2/linear foot by 9' wide so for a typical two person tent about $10. (www.antigravitygear.com) About as waterproof as silnylon above. This stuff is extremely puncture resistant. Very stiff and noisy when new, but throwing it in the washing machine with just plain cold water for a minute of two will tame it.

So, in summary:

2 mil plastic…
Extremely cheap
Fairly light
Waterproof
Easily punctured

1.1 oz silnylon
Reasonable cost
Fairly light
Waterproof (under a tent floor)
Somewhat puncture resitant

Tyvek Homewrap
Reasonable cost
Somewhat heavier than above
Waterproof (under a tent floor)
Extremely puncture resistant

Maybe others have compared alternative products with some of the above and add to this comparison. I haven't tried, but am very interested in the Polycryo sheets from Gossamer Gear. I haven't tried "exotic" fabrics such as spinaker or cuban as these are too expensive in my mind.
