Just use a little piece of kitchen saran wrap, keeps the moisture out and gives them a little cushion/support against cracking.

Go to any craft shop and look for ziploc bags. You'll find them in all sizes. Pick a suitably small size.

I have my medical kit, a few pills/mole skins/iodine/small bandage and ointment, inside a small ex-peanut butter plastic jar. Light,transparent,sturdy,waterproof and free. No more pills in powder form…

I just use the tiny zip-lock bags available in the craft department and label them with a permanent marker, roll them over themselves and store the pills in the larger Zip-lock with my first aid items. The bandaids, gauze, etc. serve to cushion them & I haven't had a problem with them crushing.

If I did, I'd probably pack some cotton balls to cushion them, which could be multi-use as fire starters.

No worries about pills getting crushed. It would take a sharp and hard pounding or crushing for that to happen. And even so, you can still take them in powder form — like Franco did. :)

I went through the same reasoning and bought a few little plastic keyfob pill bottles. I use 'em for ibuprofen, pepto, etc., and I tape the expiration date on the outside. It works, but I don't know how much they weigh compared to other options.

I came upon a lot of little (1.5"x2") Ziplok baggies. I use a felt tip marker and identify what's in each bag. All of the small bags go into a Ziplok snack bag and then into a ditty containing my first aid kit, bear-bag cord and other essentials. This ditty goes with me on every hike.
