I think this year I am going to have to finally break down and buy a long sleeve shirt to wear in the summer around here in the Midwest what with the bugs and the direct sunlight with little cover. I was thinking about just getting one of those fitted Puritan shirts from Wal-Mart for $13 in a white or off-white color. They are 55% cotton and 45% poly or the other way around. Does anyone else have a better suggestion?
Before someone else suggests it, I think the 'gold standard' for this type of shirt is RailRiders Eco-Mesh shirt. It's about as airy as a long sleeve shirt can be and its really tough-

Brett, a slight tweak of Russell's suggestion is the RailRiders Adventure shirt. It's the same design as the Eco-Mesh but the elastic cuff on the sleeves is replaced with a button cuff. The neck closing of the Adventure shirt uses buttons instead of velcro on the Eco-Mesh.
Other than those 2 features they are the same shirt. I just find the button closures more comfortable. It also allows me to roll the sleeves up when I don't need the sun protection.
The Puritan shirt may be fine. You need to experiment with it's drying time, but the polyester content could make it dry okay.
I would second the recommendation of the adventure shirt. I would also recommend getting the bright white model. I found its cooler wearing than even light colored shirts.
