I weas just looking at the WM Cloud 9 comforter as a possible backpacking quilt.
It has a quilted box stitch construction.

Loft is 3" and I was told that they "rated" the quilt to 40F, which surprised me, given that other quilts (JacksRBetter, Nunatak) rate their quilts with comparable loft at much lower temps. Could this be due to differences in the construction?
Thanks for your input!

A sewn-through baffle construction will be no where near as warm as a baffled quilt of the same loft.

Hm … I was afraid that would be the case. Question is, how much "colder" it will be …?

Lots. The sewn-thru region has little value.
