I just picked up a pair of VERY light black plastic sandals at Walgreen's today for camp shoes. My old "pool" shoes were way too thin in the soles & let cacti spines through.

These new sandals come in two designs – as Crocs knock-offs or, like mine, more like river sandals with a small Velcro strap on top.

Yeah, "Made in China" but they're only camp or stream crossing sandals. Who cares. They were only about $9.

The material is far lighter than Crocs material so don't expect to hike in them with a pack.

I've made my own camp sandals out of blue foam and paracord. If I get a chance, I'll post pics and details. These only weigh an ounce or two for the pair.

I'm interested. I own a pair of these:

They are rather light (1 ounce a piece), but have a couple weaknesses. First, they are pretty thin on the bottom. I could solve that problem by adding a layer of foam (which wouldn't weigh much). I might even lose a little weight if I cut out the existing bottom (or much of it) when I add the blue foam. The other weakness is that is offers no bug protection. At some point, I may make my own bug socks (based on the very kind posting made on a different thread) or maybe a combination (since I don't need bug socks while wearing boots). A slipper made with blue foam sole and nylon (no mesh) top would be ideal (as it would be breathable, yet provide bug protection).

Ross,

I too have the "Sprint Aquatics slippers. Two pair, in fact. The 1st one lasted a week around camp on a trip in the Paria Canyon, Utah. The second is getting holes in the mesh from a week in camp in the Grand Canyon. These are entirely inadequate as camp shoes.

These new camp shoes are true sandals. Made of a very light, dense closed cell black plastic so they float. They are FAR more substantial than the Sprint Aquatics slippers.

In size LARGE they weigh 10 oz. per pair as measured on my digital scale. They're a bit tight on my size 11 1/2 foot but I'll fix that W/ a hair drier on hot to push out the big toe area permenantly.

As you see in the topic line, they are made by "Caribbean Cartel", as the heel label says. Bet it took a few joints to think up that name…Dude!

I got a pair too, cost me $10. They are about 6oz apiece, aren't they? Make great river sandals as wel as camp sandals. Far lighter than Crocs. They seem like they would have gripping power somewhat under water too.
