With cost being critical, rather than go new, what about gently used? Have you looked/asked in the gear swap section?

Roger… that would be a great option if I hadn't just pulled the trigger on a new one at campsaver.com. They were having a 20% off everything sale and it was just about to expire so I just bit the bullet and got one just before the sale ended. Next time I'll know to check here first.

you could look into Wiggies sleeping bags. the camp I work at uses the Wiggies 0 degree bag for our backpacking trips, and they are quite heavy and bulky, but warm, and the entire bag – loft and zipper included – has a lifetime guarantee.

Welcome to the forums. They've probably shipped by now but you could have cancelled the order, or even just paying the return shipping and going with Roger's bag or another bag from Gear Swap you'd still end up spending less.

It depends on how much of a risk taker you are, but, you will pick up a bag at 'Nepal' prices when you get there:)
