OK, so Gossamer Gear's "The One" is made from 0.97oz 'spinnaker'. MLD has 'Spinntex' and 'Spectralite', and SMD had 'Cuben' fabrics in their lightest designs. What are the practical differences, the pros and cons of each of these fabrics?

Beats me, but if Miguel is serious about his wiki project — fabrics — tent, pack, and of course clothing — should be one hugely important area of write up.
Hopefully, those in the know — esp. the gear makers themselves — will share their knowledge here.
Spinnaker and Spinntex are the same. Spectralite is made of Cuben fiber. There are various weights of both Spinn and Cuben. Both are fairly easily sewn. Spinn seams can be sealed and strengthened w/ silicon, I believe. Cuben is made from super high strength fibers sandwiched between two Mylar films. That is why is has great tear strength but can be punctured fairly easily. Seams are best sealed and strengthened w/ a 3M two-sided tape sandwiched between two pieces of Cuben, otherwise the relatively weak Mylar would tend to pull apart at the stitching. Neither like or handle much abrasion.
