Last week I went for an eyecheckup and I got presicription glasses. Its -1.0/-2.0 …not much. I was thinking that water soluble glue would allow me to temporily attach my prescription to my sunglasses. anyone tried it?

The other alternative: optical inserts available from Rudy project and Adidas or direct RX sunglasses. Both are very expensive options.

I always buy glasses that have clip on lenses. In the past I bought more frugal glasses, but this time I sprung for a pair of silhouette titan minimal art (screwless, rimless, titanium)

Honestly? I just buy a second pair of glasses and they are sunglasses. I can do this for about $100 for the second pair. (I spend about $300-500 on my daily glasses)

I don't get fancy lenses added on them, but rather buy the frames to cover as much of my vision as I can. As well they act as a backup if I were to break my glasses. If you look around you can often get prescription sunglasses for even as low as $50.

I used to work for a Scuba shop that glued lenses into diving facemasks. The lenses needed to be custom ground so they were flat on the outer side in order for the glue to bond well. I doubt the inside of your sunglasses have the same curvature as the outside of your prescription lenses.

For about $10, you can get some aviator-style sunglass lenses that clip onto the frame of your eyeglasses. Or, you can get some wrap-around plastic sunglasses frames made to wear over your existing eyeglasses. This second type has square corners, and is only in style with the 65 & older crowd, but they also have lenses on the sides, so they are probably more funtional…

When out backpacking I leave my contacts at home and bring glasses.

I bring along my regular glasses and a pair of prescription sunglasses.

Thanks everyone for the comments.

John thanks for sharing this info.

I can glue only the centre of prescription lens to the sunglasses.

I will post an update if this works out.

I just pay extra for the self-darkening option whenever I get prescription glasses. It's spendy, but I don't have to carry around a second pair or clip-ons. They don't work as well for small framed glasses.

Some eyeglass places can make a custom sunglass clip for your glasses if they did not come with a clip.

sunclipies are sunglass clip ons exactly tailored to prescription eyeglasses.
you send in a foto of your eyeglasses and make a few basic measurements and then they are custom tailored.
they are very thin bendable lenses, so almost nothing to carry along. and available in different colors.

CHEAP-ASS GLASSES Really. Check it out for an extra pair of shades or a new pair of glasses w/ the clip on shades. Options can add up, but even with all the bells and whistles, still end up being about what my deductible payment is when I use my vision insurance at the local optician with fancy name frames. Stripped down prescription shades can be had for as little as $15.

Hi Chris

Fascinating.
How many pairs have you bought from them?
Are they smooth and with tight joints like the 'expensive' ones, or do they feel cheap like the ones in the service stations?

Cheers

Only 1 so far. Want to try some more.
They don't seem like the cheapy shades from the flea market at all. No one that I show them to can tell at all.

They carry a fairly wide range of price ranges and mine weren't quite the $8 ones either.

I'm very satisfied with them, but I'm not really experienced in the finer points of glasses either.

All 3 pairs of prescriptions (shades and otherwise) that I owned prior to these are Costa Del Mar plastic frames.

I'm thinking that even if they are the cheapest thing ever, they would beat gluing rx lenses to sunglasses!?!

Just sayin'.
