Oware pyramid tent and high wind

Take a look at the Stephenson Warmlite tents. They are extremely light weight (and expensive) but were designed to withstand up to 95 mph winds without the optional internal wind stabilizers; up to 160 mph with the stabilizers (adds 2 oz to the tent).

We've slept in our Oware Pyramid in high winds (35-40) with only an Inuit paddle as a pole, but all sides staked. I wish there were tie outs along the outside like the LMD pyramid, but you could always add them later. There is no comparison between a Pyramid and a tunnel tent, it is so nice to stand inside a shelter.

Anyone us use Oware pyramid tarp or TiGoat vertex 5 in very high winds? Would you get something different for high wind winter camping? Thanks!!

I have a friend who used a GoLite Hex 3 in very high winds and near horizontal rain. The shelter was modified by adding side pullouts and Velcro to the vents to stop the horizontal rain.

It worked but it wasn’t a pleasant experience for him.

He sold the shelter to me because I am willing to tolerate the occasional unpleasant night for the sake of weight.
