Which type of glove you use for ultralight

I have been happy with the tempest without liners between 0-20F. Above 20F my hands start to get sweaty, and my hands overheat when it’s 35F or warmer. I have never used them with liners. When I have faces below 0F temps I have either been alpine skiing or climbing. Skiing I tend to wear a slightly a warmer glove (typically w/ primaloft insulation) and climbing I was something that has better grip and more durable.

In cool weather (say 20-40F) I have been very happy with Pearl Izumi Encore Gloves. I haven’t tried them with liners yet.

I should note that my hands tend to run a bit warmer than some peoples, so your comfort range might be somewhat different.

I wish OR would bring back the unlined rain mittens. The combo of rain mittens and a base layer glove coverage a huge range of conditions with comfort.

I use the tempest sl and with a pair of smartwool glove liners. The combination is warm (for me) to at least 25-30 degrees while just hanging around camp. It would probably be fine for even colder temps, but I havent tried. If your hands are damp it can be somewhat difficult to pull the tempest sl’s on.

I’ve got some Tempest SL’s, but I don’t think they’re very water resistant (the seams leak) and with the mouse-fur lining, it’s almost impossible to get them on (or off) if your hands are wet. One guy tore the lining out in favor of simply putting on liners and then using the unlined SL’s as shells, but the problem with the seam leakage made that less than desirable as well.

I use liners (possum fur) and either spinnaker cloth mitten shells or big old OR Goretex mitten shells for now, depending on how much contact the shells will have with abrasive material.
