I intend to purchase a PLB shortly. I am looking at the ACR Electronics Microfix 406 PLB with GPS.($650 at REI) Does anyone have any views on this piece of gear or suggestions for another PLB?

I have the Murdo. It's a nice backup policy for this solo hiker. While you are at REI look at that Spot thing. You do have to pay a yearly fee but the base price is much less. I hope that mine will never be more than a brick that I carried around. One good thought though: If you come across some poor soul that needs to be evacuated it will help him/her too (but scare the crap out of your phone contact).
