Can some clever person please explain the process for inserting a link into a forum post?
It's a bit of a pain to have to copy and paste a URL.
I am sure it's been talked about before but I can't seem to find it.
Thanks.

I'm not that clever, but was able to find this sometime back buried in the middle of another thread.
{a href="http://yourrul.com"}This is the link that the reader sees{/a}
Now substitute < for { and > for } and it will work. You'll also need to be careful about the length of the url. Not exactly sure what the limit is but if your link doesn't work you can always try tinyurl.com.
At some point BPL will get modern forum software and we won't have to do this anymore.
Thanks Nia, I'll give it a crack.
Sounds pretty clever to me!

Also stick:
target="_blank"
with a space in front, directly after the last quote mark in the url and it will open in a new window.
Posted in Test, as that's a good place to, ah TEST,…
In the following, replace http://URL with the link,
and TARGET STRING with something meaningful.
(The quotes Are required.)
![]()
So if you wanted to send someone to http://www.backpackinglight.com
…using a TARGET STRING of BPL
it would look like this –
![]()

again a request for a button that does this easily:
Just like the 'insert image at cursor' button, on the 'posting a message' page, there should be an 'insert link at cursor' button.
SNIPPITY SNIP
Nia,
I had a long url that would set up as a hot link. I went to tinyurl like you suggested and it it worked fine.
Great tip.
Daryl
If the link you are posting is really long this can cause problems- fixed by using tiny URL.
