Here is where you can have a good laugh at my expense…. a GSI pepper grinder. It's an essential luxury to me.

An engagement ring.

Sitting on the summit watching the sunset refract through the diamond was fantastic.

Nothing has ever weighed so heavily on my shoulders as that ring in my pack.

Butt/sitting pad made from old Ridge rest. Now I never leave home without it.

Small Rite in the Rain journals with all the notes, thoughts, names and memories from the hikes I've carried them on.

my 13 oz. stadium chair. ok, so it's not an ounce and not exactly ultra-light, but sure feels good to sit with a back rest after a long day on the trail…

During my last trip, I was actually noting that my Figure 9 Line Tighteners/Fasteners were the best ounce I carried.

I carry one for each line on my hammock tarp (8), and makes it so that I don't have to tie a single knot. Good stuff. All 8 weigh .9 ounces.

Equinox LiteTripper

If you find yourself rummaging through your pack and pockets for your smaller items or have ever left a small item behind this 1.5 oz is a cool tool:

http://www.ems.com/catalog/product_detail_square.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442586911&emssrcid=GoogleBase

6 pouches, 4 of them see thru netting for easy visual check. Holds my clip-on headlamp, lighter, Victorinox classic, meds bottle, toothbrush, breath film, spoon, salt, red peppers, spare led lamp, needle/thread, matches, lint, vaseline, air-core patch, licenses, cash, credit card, soap, sanitizer, TP, Steripen. Unzip it and hang it from a handy branch. Everything in its place, never misplaced. Especially useful when cooking and bedding down.

Sorry if I sound like a commercial.

An extra Photon II LED at well under 1 oz, because when my other light source unexpectedly failed, this allowed me to setup camp and get through a pitch black night in relative comfort.

Line tensioners!

Dipsy Diver Snubbers 6" long. Actually, a deep sea fishing item used as a shock absorber in your tackle so that a "big one" will not rip the hook out its mouth.

They clip onto a couple of strategic tie-outs and keep the silnylon tentioned all night, rain or shine, at 0.39 oz each.

I sleep like a baby and let the tent tension itself. Available at Cabelas, etc.

The best less than an ounce I ever carried is in the form of Cinnamon Disks. These little gems weight 0.2 oz/ea, and really help my motivation during the last 2 hrs of the day. I consider them a luxury because they are only 20 cal and I don’t count them as food per se. They are just one of life’s little pleasures for me.

Duct tape for taping the tent pole intersections to pitch the fly-only. I'd forgotten that they needed something, so good thing there was the tape. It was a nice lunar eclipse til midnight, followed by a storm lasting through the next day.

Along with the tape, my best ounce has to include the few pills I bring because once I needed the Immodium Advanced.

Other than that: all the little 1-oz essentials like my clip-on sunglasses. Iodine tabs, in my old days. Lighter. Dental floss. Knife. Prussik cord.

An especially enjoyable ounce was a candle stub. Very cheery.

Cough drops can be very nice for their weight. They help you expand the lungs for hiking up, as well as taking bad tastes out of the mouth. A mix of sugar and sugar-free is nice: the latter for longest minty freshness, the former for the precious sugar. You could use it on a diabetic, or to boost your focus for a dusk descent. Sugar-free does less mouth pucker, IIRC.

Gu, bonking once. They are 1.1 oz/pack.

This makes me want to trim down my 3/4 ridgerest.

Guess I'm a Retro Grouch. No Nano. No Pod. What I like is one of the pocket readers published by Shambhala. There are dozens of titles, measure 3" X 4.5", and on average weigh 85gm. It's natural and very Zen.
