This is my official "I HATE VELCRO" thread.

I HATE the way it sticks to itself when you least want it too.

I HATE how it collects mud, twigs, fur, hair, polar fleece.

I HATE how it freezes up with ice and snow.

I HATE how it comes apart when you least want it to.

I HATE how hard it is to line up and seal in, eg tarp vestibules.

I HATE how it ends up on almost every piece of backpakcing gear ever produced.

I actually had a gear manufacturer try to tell me that fabrics that stick to Velcro are poorly designed, in other words all fleece, wool, synthetic knits, etc… are poorly designed fabrics because they don't work well with Velcro. That one took the cake…

Any other haters or defenders of Velcro???

That stuff doesn't stick to most fabrics and is butter soft.
The worst offender is faux velcro……

Depends on what you want it to do, like with most everything else. A thin strip of "stick-to-itself velcro" is light as heck and so much easier to use for keeping open a tent door — as compared to pushing a plastic toggle through a cord loop.

Sometimes I do curse at it when it tangles up and sticks together.
But! It's the lightest and best thing I've found for lashing my tent poles to the outside of my pack.

Fabric stores :-)
It doesn't have the coarseness of off brand Velcro. As well, even if one use non-baby Velcro, get the 'soft & flexible' type they make – it doesn't have the harsh edges.
