Does anyone have an option on wool underwear (not long johns) vs the various synthetic underwear that is out there? Being in Canada, I'm looking at some MEC Merino Microweight Boxer briefs or the MEC Seamless Boxer briefs (synthetic). I prefer to have a longer leg on my boxer briefs and the Merino Boxers seem to have a very short leg.

I've also wondered about sports underwear like Under Armour or Nike Pro but they seem to be compression style boxer briefs which might be too tight for days of hiking.

I picked up two pair of the MEC seamless synthetic, and was surprised at how heavy they are. The microlight merino on my T-shirt definitely feels lighter.

The seamless also have a pretty short leg. I found regular sports boxers to be lighter and a little longer.

(Can't comment on the Merino briefs)

can't comment on the undies but my experience with mec brand merino has been pretty poor. i've had long johns and a longsleeve and they fell apart pretty quickly despite carefull washing. i will not buy merino from mec again.

edit
i've got the synthetic boxers and they've worked well and seem
to be durable. i wasn't expecting them to be comfortable as i prefer longer length as well but the've proved really comfortable. my personal choice if the quality was there would be the merino though.

Either wool or synthetic will work. Synthetic will be more durable, but I personally prefer wool. I feel less itchy wearing wool for a few days compared to synthetic for a few days.

My preference is for Ibex's Balance Seamless Boxers. I'm not sure how durable they are, but they are the most comfortable underwear that I've worn.
