Nunatek Shaka plus vs. BPL Cocoon 60

The Skaha will be much, MUCH warmer than the Cocoon. The Skaha has 4.1 inches of double layer loft with a baffled construction. The one advantage the Cocoon would have is in damp climates. Aside from the $150 or so price difference! Though if you have the money, and getting it wet isn't a concern, IMO the Nunatak Skaha Plus is the best insulated jacket available for backpackers on the market.

I have a Skaha and I have a really hard time believing that a single layer of 68g/m^2 Polarguard Delta would be warmer than 1.5-2" of down. However, the Skaha is way on the expensive side…

I have the Skaha hoody plus front pocket. I also have the cocoon vapor mitts. I am extremely disappointed with the loft/warmth of the mitts, and wished I'd gone for down mitts instead. The Skaha is just awesomely warm for it's weight, but wouldn't be good to wear in the rain or crossing a river, etc…Mind you, if it's raining it's probably too warm to be wearing the Skaha outside of camping/sleeping. The Skaha is more expensive, but the loft of down-filled garments last much longer than synthetics.

Another vote for the Skaha. I have the hooded version with handwarmer pockets as well as the BPL hooded Cocoon. I don't think their warmth is even close as the Skaha dominates. Keep in mind, you can also order the Skaha with different shell fabrics.

OK, I get it! Just wish the Shaka wasn't soooo dear.
