Never tried Golite footwear… can you elaborate more on the 'crappy' quality?

Dang, where have you Ben ; ). Since the shoes came out there have been reports on most forums of bad quality. I need to find the one about an early user reporting failure (falling apart?) in about 100 miles or less. Here it is.

Ben,
based on my own experience with The Delerion model and the comments I have read on this forum with regards to othder models the overwhelming consensus was that despite pretty good "technical" performance these shoes were falling apart VERY quickly.

Thanks, John and Sven. I haven't been paying any attention to shoes (tents and packs are much sexier) — but alas, my current pair is fast giving out, so just wanted to find out more.

I don't know what everyone else is talking about, but I absolutely love my Golite Spike Tail. No problems with durability either. Once my Vitesse kicked the bucket (and I had a hard time finding replacements), I took a chance on these shoes and haven't regretted it a second.

By far, the _best_ backpacking shoes I've ever owned. Luckily, prolitegear.com just got a bunch of the new Spring '08 models in and will be selling them for a while. I'll probably buy a couple pair.

Figures though, just about every shoes I've really liked has been discontinued.
