Further into my study of tent designs, I have come finally to poles. CF are out because this will be my first tent and CF are costly.
I have found DIY aluminium poles only at questoutfitters.com (If you know of any other source let me know.)
.433 diam poles are too heavy, so Im looking at .340 diam and .344 diam poles. Both are made of 7075 – T9 aluminium. The (.344) Nanolites are made lighter-weight by having a thinner wall thickness, and a bit larger diameter, but still retain the tensile strength of the .340's [questoutfitters]. I will be using 3 45 degrees pole arch and rely on the aluminium to make the rest of the curve. Two such poles will be used in a tunnel tent.
I know GG and Tarptents both use .344 type poles. But I havent found any detailed comparison between them. Can someone explain me what are strenght and weaknesses of each?
