Windshirt Sizing?

I just tried on the mont bell u.l. windshirt and it was quite small. I talked with the owner of a local gear store and he said that they got the sizing funny on the U.L. windshirt. I traded it in for the mont bell mistral wind shirt.A litle heavier at 5.6 ozs. It has a hood ,a full front zipper and front hand warmer pockets with zippers. It also has a slightly stretchy material up the sides and around the wrists for about 2 inches. The hood is nice with a built in brim. I like it.

I have a MontBell UL windshirt (2007 edition) on my desk here, and it's a Large. At your height and weight, I'd order a large at least. I am 5'11" and 160lbs, and a large fits me just great, but without a lot of room for insulation (on purpose, as I wear a puffy down jacket outside of the windshirt and a rain jacket over that).

Based on my experience with Golite's sizing I would suggest that a Large shirt ought to fit you with room to layer. At 5'11" and, oh, a few pounds heavier than you (ahem…) my XL Ether shirt is spot-on for me, although it is no bigger than the Large Ventile smock I have from Snowsled which makes me think that they size just a little on the small side.

And of course while a baggy shirt might flap in the wind and be occasionally annoying, a too-tight shirt will suffer from stressed seams and will hopelessly compress your insulating layer. A little too large is almost always the way to lean.

Thanks for the inputs…always a challenge to buy everything online without being able to try it on. It was difficult because I am a die hard Montbell fan but I went with the Golite Wisp in a large. I also purchased a Golite Ion pack and Golite poncho tarp. I just could not resist the price…backcountrygear.com has the Ion pack and Poncho tarp on sale so I got all 3 items for $130 even. These items will put my base weight right at 5 lbs for summer travel. Again thanks!
