Chris, I only wore it on a three day trip. There was zero need to wash it, because it was perfectly clean. It looks like I just got it out of the box actually.

Maybe you got a bad one somehow. I've had mine in light rain for 10-15 minutes at least before it started to wet out.

He did say it was raining hard. There's certainly an intensity of rain past which a wind shirt isn't any good and maybe this reached that.

Maybe try it on something gentler like a shower/splashing from a tap etc before returning it.
