Hi Bill,
I know that you had purchased a pair of the new Kahtoola Steel KTS Crampons earlier in the year. I am considering getting a pair and was wondering how you liked yours.
Thanks.

Hi Richard, All I have been able to do with them so far is attach them to my TNF trail runners and walk around on the grass in my yard. They fit very secure on the trail runners and I think they will work well on ice or frozen mud.
I made a pair of gaiters for my trail runners that I will add insulation to so my feet will stay warmer in the cold. I don’t know how cold I can go with the insulated gaiters on my trail runners and will need some really cold weather to find that out.
I may get on a section of the AT the first of November – Fontana Dam south to Dicks Creek Gap. I don’t expect really cold weather but you never can tell that time of the year.
The next chance I might have for a cold hike will be in Feb/Mar 2006. I want to go up to Maine during that time and I should sure see cold and snow that time of the year.
Bill,
Thanks for the reply. Hope the gaiters keep your feet, ankles, and shins warm. Maybe someone else also has some experience with these crampons.
