Has anyone used both the Western Mountaineering Flash Vest (I have one) and the Western Mountaineering Flight Jacket Vest? (which I don't have).
I'm curious how much warmer is Flight Jacket Vest in the same body areas covered by the Flash Vest (obviously the Flight Jacket is warmer around the neck which is not covered by the Flash Vest).
I'll be hiking the JMT late July thru mid-August and what I've used for hiking in SEKI the last 3-4 years has been layering to get warm when it gets cold some morning (never colder than 28 degrees overnight) — my max number of wearable layers are:
Rainshield Rainwear Rain Jacket (5.9 oz)
Montane Aero Jacket (3.3 oz)
Western Mountaineering Flash Vest (3.5 oz)
2 Ibex Morino Wool Baselayers Tshirts (one long sleeve, one short sleeve).
I must admit it is clumsy putting on all of the above when cold but even then I am on the threshold of just barely getting by — fortunately it has always gotten warmer an hour or so later and so I have managed these last 3-4 years.
I'm curious how much warmer I'd feel if I substituted the Flight Jacket Vest for the Flash Vest. Comments? Thanks.
