Due to the heavy Rockies snow this year avalanche conditions were too risky to do my planned Pearl Pass back country ski camping trip. Guides said the conditions were just too unstable for that trail this winter. This has been a record year for snowfall in the Rockies. So…I just skiied at alpine resorts and XC areas for two weeks to get my snow time in.
My plan next year is to find far less avy-prone backcountry trails to ski. I bought two books on Front Range back country ski trails in Boulder. So, I will hike/backpack the most promising Colorado ski trails this summer and report back in the fall. Tom D. this may interest you. I'll be in touch.
