Do you guys that use down bags or quilts in conjunction with single wall shelters (e.g. HS Tarptents or Six Moon Designs) tend to use light weight bivies? I have a new shelter on the way, but I'm not sure if I need to pair my yet-to-be-purchased down bag with a bivy such as the BMW Vapr or Titanium Goat Ptarmigan. Is this necessary or just for when tarping it with a proper tarp?

I own a Lunar duo and would never think of using a bivy with it. From what I have read, even gatewood owners dont use them. I would only use one in conjunction with a small tarp. Then again if you are using a bag vs. quilt then drafts are not your problem, side spray/splash is.
All Tarptents – when properly set-up and oriented for the weather expected – provide more than enough protection for my down bag. No need for a bivy of any kind.
The SMD Lunar Solo and Lunar Duo provide the same degree of protection – no bivy needed.
I've not tried the Gatewood Cape nor the Wild Oasis, but according to Ron's website, no bivy is needed with either of them.
I use my down bag with my Tarptent – no problems. If you are going to use a bivy, bring a tarp, not a SW tent.
