Hey John,
I purchased the Brunton and was very impressed with the quality of the optics for the price and weight! An awesome value! In the field I carry a monocular on my sternum strap and am surprised at how often I use it (very fast and convenient).
Unfortunately–for my budget–I am a bit of an optic fanatic and now use a Zeiss 8×20 monocular.

While the Brunton was fine for a quick look, I really appreciate the improved clarity and color transmission of the Zeiss. The Brunton case ataches better to the sternum strap and is fast with the velco tab and I use it to hold the Zeiss 8×20 (with the eye cup rolled down).
I sometimes back this up with a light pair of Swarovski 10×25 binocs (8.1 oz) that are very clean and nice.

My wife and I have enjoyed many hours of fine wildlife viewing in Glacier National Park and the Cascades with this system.
I weighed one and it was 2.9 oz with the little strap attached, without the carry case.
