Hi all, I currently use a Platypus bladder with a hose and a second platypus bladder for additional water. What I was wondering was if anyone had succeeded in finding a lighter weight drinking tube. The current one weighs in at around the 3.3oz (100g) mark and I'm sure I could get away with a lighter weight one. The only problem is finding some – there are plenty of sites selling tubing, but none of them quote weights! Can anyone help please?

Most neighborhood hardware stores will have reels of tubing, probably near where they have rope and chain for sale. There's a yellow-ish rubber tubing that's lighter for the same internal diameter, but is not rated as foodsafe unlike the heavier clear tubing that's used for Platypus bags and some home plumbing purposes. I'd also worry that the yellow tubing would easily kink–or collapse if you suck the water through an in-line filter. There's also a very light milky white tubing (for ice makers, etc.) that's probably too stiff for a hydration tube, but definitely wouldn't kink.
The good news is the tubing shouldn't cost more than 20-30 cents per foot…
