Montrail has a new shoe coming out this month, the Streak. Near as I can tell, it look to be the most breathable in their lineup. When the Masai was discontinued (their all mesh shoe), Montbell did not come out with a replacement, and mine are about ready to give up. Anybody know any more info on the Streaks, or how they will compare to the Masai?

Their website used to say it would be available in February, and it no longer says that, so I'm assuming it's now available (or delayed). I can't find any online retailers who carry them, though.

p.s. sorry about the subject error; I accidentally referred to the Masai as the Vitesse, and then renamed it. But it did not update on the main search page. ???

Thanks for the retailer link; I should have know to look up Moosejaw.

Yes they look less substantial, and more breathable, too! My mesh Masai shoes only lasted a season before the mesh started tearing apart. Still, I love feeling the breeze between my toes while wearing fully-protective shoes, and am willing to trade durability for that, so long as the Streak offers the support that the Masai did. For cold weather I add thicker socks and my Gore-Tex oversocks.

The Streak is not a Vitesse replacement. I couldn't stand the bulk and stiffness of the Vitesse, gave 'em away. I was a fan of the short lived Masai and like the Streak even better. The Streak is not quite as breathable as the Masai, but is more flexible. Not sure how it would do for hiking, but a great trail running shoe. You can read more about the Streak here: http://irunfar.blogspot.com/2008/02/montrail-streak-review.html .

If the Streak aren't generally available yet, they should be soon. I've managed to get a pair of the production model. Nice shoe.

Hey Bryon,
I have been looking at the Streak for the up and coming season as my "everything" shoe (road/trail running and hiking/backpacking). In the past I have used pretty much every model of Montrail out there and have always been impressed with their protection and comfort. This winter I figured I would try the New Balance 800 to cut alittle weight. Turns out they are a great running show, but do not have enough protection for me to hike on rocky trails. I seriously feel as though I could count the number of rocks under the shoe when cruising along. Do the Streaks provide a solid protection plate against the trail. While I do want a breathable light and fleixible shoe, I also find that my tolerance for feel rocks poking my feet is not too high. I wonder if there is a shoe out there are offers this balance?
