Well, I finally got the hang of setting up my double rainbow and seam sealed it yesterday in prepartion for the coming rain. I alternated between using the foam brush and a stiff stencil brush. I payed attention to get the stitching around the velcro and the seam along the sleeve for the top spreader bar.
Today I saw two small puddles in the tent but could not at first find where it came in at as everything felt dry. I did eventually find a small leak where the top mitten hooks are so I will go back and redo that.
I also noticed that some of the seams where "wetting out" although there was no leakage. Parts of the sleeve that contains the pole seemed wet as well.
I don't see any leakage around those areas yet, I'm not sure how much sealer I should use in these areas. I don't want to overseal and wind up with a thick mess. I am surprized that the seams appeared wet because I applied the sealer the width of the seam for the most part. I am figuring that a few stitches got missed and moisture is seeping along the whole seam. It's still raining so I guess I will know soon enough if those are going to leak or not.
I did a search of seam sealing and someone recommended permatex flowable windshield sealant. That sounds more convienient that mixing sealer and mineral spirits. I also have some sil-net but haven't cracked it open yet.
I'm wondering if I should do the pole sleeve thicker, maybe I will used the undiluted silnet over that part.
