I'm setting up my PCT gear list and I was thinking of pairing 2 smaller tarps for the Washington section.
For California and maybe Oregon I'm going with a TiGoat bivy and poncho tarp. I like the insect and creepy crawly (snakes, scorpians, spiders, etc) protection.
But in Washington I would like to have a larger tarp to be able to spread out when a long rain storm occurs. I've already got the poncho tarp and I have a piece of silnylon that is about 5' x 6' (still needs to be sewn up with tie outs). Effectively I could pair the two together and have a 8' (head) x 6' (foot) x 9+' (length) tarp.
This setup would weigh about 16 oz (maybe a little less). This is much better than 8'x10' tarp, pack cover, and rain jacket/pants (about 30 oz). Except when setting up in the rain…
Are there any drawbacks to pairing the two tarps like this?
Has anyone done this? It seems like partners could do this 2 poncho tarps.
