I am hoping to finally find a pair of hiking pants that fit. My waist is about 31'' and my inseam is about 34 1/2''. Basically, outside the range of any size charts i see online from the major retailers. Some makers/models might run longer than others, I don't know. I am looking for something that is waterproof/breathable, possibly a softshell. Anyone with similar dimensions have any suggestions?

I am on the other side of the bell curve– wide and short inseam.

As an ordained minister of the Universal Life Church, I think is is obvious that God is speaking to us and the message is to HIKE NAKED :)

Sorry, not to hijack the thread but my wife just looked at the board for the first time and saw the category 'The G Spot' with 'Size Solution' for the topic.

She is still laughing.

Chad,
that's really funny especially since I am a regular user of the forums and I saw the post's subject and I had to check to see what site I was on.

I see that this is a great solution to all of us off-sized people, but there is no way some of us (myself included) can afford clothes from beyondclothing.com. It's just not an option.

Margaret, the Steel Shock pants from Beyond are Schoeller dynamic and $119. While I think the REI Mistrals were selling for $100 (now discontinued, apparently) pretty much everything else in this or other softshell fabrics goes north from that price (some dramatically so). It's just the nature of the beast.

So while you can find supplex pants for $50 – 60, Beyond's version of the softshell pants that the poster asked about seem quite reasonably priced relative to the competition. I don't have anything from them yet, but the first thing I was struck by is how their prices were actually lower for fully custom, made in the USA stuff than than most similar off-the-rack brands. Add in the fact that they might actually fit and you have a bargain.

So, basically it seems like even if you weren't "off-sized" (I'm borderline myself, hence my interest), you would be hard pressed to get anything much cheaper.

Beyond doesn't seem to make any hardshell pants (yet).

Now 120 clams for a pair of trousers is admittedly hard to justify or budget for, but that's just the nature of a lot of outdoor gear unfortunately. You can always take it or leave it, thousands of generations before us did just fine without "Schoeller Dynamic" . . .

Arc'teryx Palisade Pants:

I'm a fetishist for the North Vancouver stuff, and have three pair, including one ordered in the 35 inch inseam (all I could get).

Very light, good venting front pockets, slim fit all around. BUT, no stretch, probably a bit limited breathability, no hem zippers. Just googled and found two hits under $100 before shipping.

Alternately, the Marmot Scree Pant:

Very smooth finish inside and very slim, stretchy fit. Not super long, but probably a 33" inseam on the Medium.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the Beyond link – perfect. Beats ordering several pairs of pants, even on sale, and hassling with shipping when none of them really fit! Happy to plunk down the 120 – I generally don't own many clothes, but I get stuff that fits and wear the hell out of them. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

I believe REI makes some for tall and short people and Patagonia usually has a few off sizes also.

So I take it you frequent other sites where subjects regarding 'The G Spot' and 'Size Solution' don't relate to backpacking gear? :)
