Feb 16, 2008 at 5:17 pm #1420877I haven't used it very much in flashlight mode. I did just now mess around with it some and it throws out a reasonably bright light, which is somewhat focused into a beam. It would definitely work OK as a backup flashlight if needed. I'm not too sure about battery life though. They don't mention any spec for that on their website.
Feb 16, 2008 at 9:07 pm #1420890I have to laugh at all the water treatment devices people have.
Ben, you make me feel SO much better with my:
1. TWO First Need filters (long story)
2. PUR/Katadyn Hiker filter W/ purifer add-on
3. iodine tablets
4. Katadyn chlorine dioxide tablets
5. water bottle purifer
6. drinking straw filter
7.. and just yesterday… my SteriPen Adventurer/solar charger comboYeah, sorta like my stove (and tent) redundancy.
Hmmmm…could these be signs of a serious gear acquisition problem? (NAAAA!)
Feb 17, 2008 at 5:41 am #1420902Just a couple of minutes per quart. The nice thing is you just
hang the filter and let gravity do the work. However, I would make sure I used it where the water sources were deep enough.
At least a few inches deep. They will gunk up faster in the BWCAW where there is a the water. -
