Aloha! Mark,
If no one here has any experience with a Jam2 and fitting it with a Bear Canister inside, you may want to contact this hiker.

On his site he used one of the Bear Vault 350 with his Jam2
or here…this was asked of him already:
Jay, can you fit a bear canister vertically into a Golite Jam2? Does it carry as comfortably as the Lite-speed?

Hi Ska-T: yes, you can actually fit the Bear Vault 350 in the Jam2, but it is a very tight fight. YOu could also strap it onto the top, which would make more room in the pack. I have recently been using the Gossamer Gear G4, which is actually lighter with a ton more room. Hope this helps.
Always take "bear canister compatible" with a large grain of salt.
WHICH bear canister was used to determine that? Probably the smallest – the Garcia can. YOUR bear canister may not fit. Note that all canisters are about 9 inches in diameter so a bear can't get its jaws around them; it's their length that matters.
IN WHICH ORIENTATION – vertically (eats up lots of space) or horizontally?
Think of how heavy your bear canister will be when full. Do you really want to carry all that weight tied up high on top or far from your back on the rear of your pack all day? It's better off inside the pack, close to your spine so the weight goes onto your hips.
Very few packs can handle the biggest canisters, like the Bearikade Expedition, in anything but a vertical orientation.
