In my never-ending quest to find the perfect pack for my upcoming PCT thru-hike, I feel the need to ask this question. Is it nearly certain that the stitching in Gossamer Gear packs will fail when pushing the upper weight limits of their packs? I know a girl who had the Miniposa on the AT, she says that the stitching gave out on the shoulder straps when she had to push 30 lbs a few times. this is something I've read several times in reviews and posts here on BPL as well. The miniposa looks like nearly the perfect pack (except for straight stays), but the durability becomes a huge concern on a thru-hike.

Eric,

I have used my Mariposa (not the mini) to haul 32 lb for a 4 day trip and had no trouble with stitching or anything else on the pack. In fact I was so impressed with the pack after using it for a year that I bought one for my wife and my daughter. Still, my testing was no PCT thru-hike and it was not the exact pack you are asking about. But I have been satisfied with GG packs.

I have read just about everything there is to read about GG and their products and you won't find a better company when it comes to customer service and craftsmanship. That being said, there is a price to pay for UL and they state that clearly on their website:

You may want to consider Dyneema type packs if you're concerned with the durability. Of course, the penalty is weight.
