Hi,
I am thinking about a UL water purifier with UV LEDs.
Has anybody similar thoughts and know some stuff like that?
I was thinking at a WP LED lamp but mostly the normal leds are not removebel, to get the UV LEDs in.

Cheers
Mike

Most of the LEDs you will find will be UVA not UVC light.

Hydro-photon, makers of the steripen, have been working on on one for a while now.

Here is an email I recieved from 2006 when I asked how there research was comming along.

HI Jason,

Thanks for your inquiry and for your interest in SteriPEN. The LED
technology continues to develop and is moving along nicely. With this said
an LED version of SteriPEN will not be available in 2006. I'm sorry I can't
be more specific.

Best regards,

Brenda Horton
Director of Administration
Hydro-Photon, Inc.

I currently have their adventurer and love it, just waiting for them to come out with a pre-filter to fit the adventurer.

I asked the same question earlier as well. Click here. Interesting read — including responses from Miles Maiden.

It IS possible to do this today. Suitable UV-C LEDs are available.
However, the LEDs themselves are still about US$250 each, and may not have enough power to work fast enough yet. I am not sure about the lifetime either.
You may rest assured that the relevant companies are tracking this field closely. :-)

It will come, have no fear!

cheers

The sun works well too. water in a clear bottle exposed to sunlight for 16 hours gets plenty of UVA and UVC. The sun puts out around 1400 watts/square yard on a clear day, so consider the power needed for an LED rig…

For double security I use a military survival kit pre-mac filter – only weighs a couple of oz and can turn muddy ditchwater into Adam's ale. They turn up on UK ebay for around £22 and are good for over 100 litres. That's less than 10 cents a pint for peace of mind and a bug free gut.

Thanks for the infos and links.

According to ul the pre mac is on option.

But now looking deeper in I found the müV
müV by Meridian Design Inc.

As seen here first perhaps Roger can tell us more about it?

Cheers Mike
