For a waterproof shell, I would either go for MLD (http://tinyurl.com/2rjl59) or ULA (http://www.ula-equipment.com/mist.htm). I think the MLD are more durable (but more expensive). For a liner, I would go with something light and simple (such as a cheap polypro liner found at most army/navy surplus stores). I've experimented with various liner gloves and found the decision usually comes down to fit (if you are using a shell). Some of the more expensive gloves are too long in some of the fingers for me.

Huh, I just tried on some Mountain Hardware Powerstretches and they were too long in the fingers, just as you said.

Don't get the powerstretch gloves even if you find a pair that fits. I bought a pair last year and used them nordic skiing. The fist time a took them put they pilled up instantly. I ended up buying a pair of OR PL base gloves and have been very happy with them. They fit well, dry fast, and do not pill when I use poles.
