. . . especially if you catch one of the frequent sales of Ibex merino products.

For example, see the Ibex Pico Half Zip Jersey that's just been marked down from $95 to $65 at Ibex website through January 14. Or the Ibex holiday sale that offered a free pair of Woolie bottoms with purchase of two Woolie tops, & free shipping of all Ibex items thru January 1 (now ended).

Never pay full price. Check the outlet at Ibex website, as well as the periodic specials by Ibex and regular sales at several on-line distributors. Just Google to find them.

Excellent design, quality, and fabric make the Ibex merino products great. They're even better at reduced prices.

And who really cares that last year's color is usually the trade-off for the deals?

I've bought socks from sockcompany before in 2000 or so. They are legit and have been around a long time.

I have purchased both brands. Returned the Ibex because it was scratchy (it wasn't uncomfortable, but it wasn't comfortable either if that makes any sense). Got the Icebreaker and love it and love the difference. I will always buy Icebreaker from now on.

I wouldn't pay the extra for a Qu T. I don't think the slightly improved fineness of the fiber (17.5 micron vs. 18.5) is worth the extra price (although I haven't tested it to find out).

If you don't need 17.5 micron stuff, the Woolies shirts to be worth it, and the same with the Echo T (it's in the outlet).

As for Ibex vs. Icebreaker, I find both to be high quality and non-scratchy. However, the fit is the big difference. Icebreakers tend to run a big bigger, and as a result they are a little looser on me. Ibex stuff feels more like a second skin.

I initially preferred Icebreaker's boxers, but after dealing with wear and tear for a year, the Ibex stuff has held up, while the Icebreaker stuff has deteriorated a bit (still quite wearable though).

The one Smartwool shirt I have is OK, but doesn't compare to Ibex or Icebreaker.
