As one who has a Concealed Carry Permit for Nevada and who regularly carries I can say I have only carried once while backpacking – and glad I did. I was with my wife and two daughters and happened to have a lot of bikers roar into Pennsylvania’s Allegheny National Forest about 1/4 mile from our campsite and have an all night party. They never spotted us but I was glad to have my GLOCK 17 with me.
BUT… if I were a woman I’d carry something like my Ruger LC9s small 9 mm pistol while backpacking. Worth every ounce of protection.
