Lightweight backpack for family BP trips

Your Super Tioga weighs in at about 6lb 7 oz give or take. with 4800 cu in capacity. You might look into some of the Granite Gear packs. You can definitely find something in their line that will shave several pounds off your present pack.

Now if you want to go to a more ultralight pack you might look at the Starlight by Six Moon Designs. This is a frameless pack which can handle up to 35lb and 4200 cu in and weighs in at 27 oz.

Thanks for your reply. I've used the GG Vapor Trail and am very impressed with the quality and durability of their packs. Even so, I'm having a hard time justifying the extra $290 for the Stratus Latitude to save 1 1b 8oz over the Tioga. Perhaps someone out there is looking to get rid of a used one for less $.

The SMD pack you suggested is looking like a better deal as far as weight vs. capacity goes. I may just need to get the kids to share a sleeping bag (I'm sure they'll get lots of sleep:) to shave some bulk off the load.

I believe I will also look to see how much weight I can save by taking some of the crossmembers and other straps off of the Tioga.
