TorsoLite or Mont-bell U.L. Pad 90

This topic has been covered in at least 5 old threads. Please do a search for old topics before asking for advice.

I did a search, but didn't really get the info I needed. I must admit, I stopped looking after about 5 pages. I guess I'm looking for a reason why the TorsoLite is better than the Mont-bell since the MB is about the same weight but bigger. The new year sale here plays a part.

I don't have any experience with the TorsoLite pad, but I own the Montbell 90 Pad and have been very happy with it. It's warm and relatively comfy. (I'm generally a side/stomach sleeper as well.) If you go with the Montbell option, make sure and pick up the pillow as well. Not only is it very comfortable, but it also attaches to the pad to keep it from sliding out in the middle of the night. The only thing I would like to see changed in the pad is a bit more width…but then again that would add weight. ;)

Montbell gets my vote.

If your over six feet, as I am,
I prefer the size of the MB,
with the optional pillow attached (a must option).

Having used both I would opt for the MB pad because it is wider and also has a solid foam core. The only advantage I see for the Torsolite is the the outer fabric is tougher than that of the MB pad. Less chance to puncture, which my older MB pad had trouble with. After replacing the MB pad I used it for a month in Europe this summer and had no problems at all.

I've had two of the Montbell 120s and two 30s delaminate in just over a year. They aren't very durable.

I think a quality company would gladly replace any product that fails in an unreasonalbly short time, even if beyond the "book" warranty. Letting them know that your disatisfaction will be broadcast on a site such as Backpackinglight could be a motivator for good customer service. I suggest being courteous but firm with what you want from them. This is a highly competitive market place.

Montbell USA customer service is great, as they've replaced all the pads. But I've had 2 of the 30s and either 2 or 3 of the 120s delaminate in just over a year. (I lost count.) It has reached the point of being too much trouble to keep sending them back.
