How do you guys prefer to keep the mosquitoes at bay when using a bivy sack? Having a sewn in headnet seems like it would be ideal, especially since you could pull the netting away from the face utilizing a trekking pole, tree branch, or tarp loop. However, using a headnet that you already carry around seems like the ultimate in simplicity, and would save around an ounce.

My concern about wearing a headnet to sleep is that this might not work while sleeping on your side or stomach. A cap of some sort would have to be worn to keep the netting away from the face, but this would make sleeping on the side or stomach difficult, if not impossible. So…does everyone who wears a headnet to bed sleep on their backs?

The main things holding me back from getting bug netting sewn into a bivy is price, weight, and lack of simplicity.

I use a bivy (Equinox) in hoodless mode with an OR spring ring headnet. The noseeum is sorta stiff so it will stay away from my face okay when I pull the fabric upwards. I sleep on my back and sides. It works, but I do get the occasional bite through the noseeum when it falls on my face..no biggy.

I've tried sleeping in the same spring headnet, and haven't been as successfully.
Instead I use a bivy with a sewn in headnet, suspended by my trekking poles, and have found this to be a good set up.
