I am about to buy a Black Diamond First Light for winter camping in the North East. Anyone have a thought on a better option before I shell out the $$?

I can’t answer your question. However, if you go with the Firstlight, beginning 22Aug for only a week or two (i think), Backcountry.com has it on sale for ~$45 less than full retail, so ~$253. This info was in a printed catalog I rcv’d from them in the mail yesterday. Not sure where you are planning to buy it and what price others are charging.
I was going to buy one to go to Rainier- do you know enough about it to know whether it would be OK there?
