    If you start around June 1 the blackflies will probably be out in fullforce and it's usually pretty muddy. Then July is skeeters. If I had a choice I'd go in mid August or early September. It'll take the average hiker about 3-4 weeks (give or take)to complete the Long Trail.

    Thats a good point, I was thinking of heading out around that date as I graduate May 31, maybe still worth bearing through though…

    I started July 30th this year on my NOBO thru. Almost no bugs and resonable temperatures. Warm to almost hot in the southern part during the day. The low I encountered the northern section was 40F at "Puffer". The next few nights were also about the same since the capsites are all at higher elevations.

    The only deterrent to this time frame is the "bubble" of AT hikers, both NOBO and SOBO in the joint southern 100 miles.
