Boot Stink… anti-bacterial ?

Hmm, sounds like it's not goretex holding moisture in the shoe. It might be mold, especially if it was a moldy dead horse smell. But if it was more of a tipi without a tums on sour chilli night aroma, that could be bacterial. Maybe give a dousing in hydrogen peroxide if you aren't tied to keeping the colors original. There is a chance it could bleach the colors. If it becomes a standard issue with the boots, perhaps an ozone generator would help make it easier to deodorize them after the trip. That listerine idea sounds like a way to add some pleasant aroma into your boots. It might even tingle the toes.

I just realized you were like Andrew and John, out there in the scary pristine wilderness.    I like your no style, but is it responsible ?

You should probably get these tested to ensure you aren’t damaging the fragile ecosystems with your foot funk.
