Hey all,
I just got the newer, larger ID eVENT Thru Hiker jacket and wanted to put up a quick post about sizing. We have an XL of the original jacket and now an XL version of the new jacket. When I got the original jacket I could not use it effectively for layering – the cut was a bit short and even the XL size was a bit tight over my insulation. I'm 5' 10" and around 185#, usually wear a size L jacket.
Anyway, FWIW I wanted to let anyone know who may be interested that the Thru Hiker version of the eVENT jacket is noticeably larger. It has been noted lots of places that the bottom edge is 3" longer than the original jacket but it wasn't clear to me on various internet sites if the fullness/volume got bigger too. I'm here to tell you that it has. Last night I put on a heavy fleece shirt, my WM Flight jacket and then the Thru Hiker jacket (note that I would not bring this fleece on a hike – I just wanted to max out my layering volume to test the jacket). The Thru hiker jacket went over everything and did not compress my down jacket one little bit. It will now replace my Montane Superfly rain jacket. It's an ounce or two heavier but I'll pay the penalty for eVENT benefits.
Hope this helps.
