Hey,
I just talked to Oware and asked about perimeter bug netting for their Alphamid – and it would depend on demand (meaning us) to do it. Adding perimeter netting would add 4-5oz to the shelter (19oz for Silnylon – $206 or a Spinnaker version, not on the site for about $280 weighing around 15oz). So for 19-24 oz and between 200-280 USD you have a 2 person shelter with some bug protection. Disadvantages versus MLD Superfly: a bit heavier (MLD: 14.5oz), a bit more expensive for the lighter one (280 vs, 265). Advantages: no poles inside the shelter (meaning couples can sleep together)and a taller shelter as well that would probably shed more snow. Heavier one would cost less though.
If anyone (we need 3 total) is interested in purchasing an Alphamid with the bug netting, please post it here and e-mail/call Owareusa.
PS: The Cuben version will be a lot lighter but probably at least 2-3 times more expensive!

How difficult would it really be to add your own perimeter bug netting to an Alpha, plus have it as a removable item for use when needed?

As for another modification to consider, a wedge-shaped pleat sewn into the top foot or two of the Alpha door (and perhaps velcro'd on one side for flexibility of function) would seem to provide a nice bit of awning when the doors are staked out toward the front. Minimize weight gain by making the pleat spectra, or even cuben.

Speaking of the Cuben Alphamid. Does anyone know how to get one? I emailed Oware they said BPL has their complete stock of cuben Alphamid's. Anyone seen these for sale in the BPL shop? did I perhaps miss these?

I would love to get the cuben version with perimeter netting.
