My school district has a longer then normal Thanksgiving break so I was considering flying somewhere to go on a hiking/packrafting trip. Ideas I'd considered were the Olympic Peninsula or the Hell's Canyon area. Any ideas? Anyone want to come along? I actually have two rafts at the moment so I might be able to bring a "raftless" friend along.

Canyonlands NP is great for a combo of hiking and flatwater packrafting. It can be nice or it can be cold at TG. Of course the days are very short. For example, you could start at the Lathrop TH in Islands in the Sky, go down Lathrop to the Colorado, paddle down to Indian Creek, walk up Indian and then follow the Hayduke Route thru Needles and down Lower Red Lake Canyon, cross the Colo and walk up to the Doll House, then walk up to Chimney Rock and down into the Maze. Walk down Horse Canyon and use the "sneak route" to get to the Green River while avoiding the huge pour-off at the bottom of Horse (see Forrest McCarthy's "Canyonlands 8" route http://forrestmccarthy.blogspot.com/2014/04/packrafting-guide-to-southern-utah.html ), then paddle down the Green to Stove Canyon and walk out via the White Crack Road (easy to follow but hard to find on a map) & back up Murphy or Gooseberry to your car. You could shorten by skipping the Needles section (which will be harder navigating with some off-trail) and just paddling all the way down to Spanish Bottom. There are of course tons of other options. Be sure you know the permit requirements for hiking and paddling in the NP.
