I saw a coupla clips on youtube of msr reps using a regular 8oz isobutane bottle sitting in an aluminum pie pan with water in it. On a recent trip to the mountains I experienced some 25 degree nights and my pocket rocket flared out on me, and the canister was very frosted over when I grabbed it. Should I run my pocket rocket in a shallow pan of water when temps dip down?
Useful trick that one, just like the one of burying your water container in the snow to keep it from freezing.
Usually because of my medical condition ( Wimpitis major) I am at home around about then, but I think that having one of those 9 hour candles to warm up your canister and dry some moisture from the fully enclosed tent (two separate things…) can be a good idea.

Yep. Iso-butane boils at -12 C from memory, so if the water is above freezing (ie liquid) it will keep the isobutane going nicely.
