I'm looking to buy my first bag, and the Marmot Never Winter 30 degree, 600 fill dwon bag is on sale for $125 (reg) or $140(long).

I live in Florida, and most of my backpacking will be done in North Carolina and Tennessee during spring,
summer, and fall. I'll almost always have a tent to sleep in.

Does anyone have experience with this bag?

Is going with down a good idea? I'll probably get of those eVent stuff sacks for it.

Should I get the long version (I'm 5'11 tall)? Weight isn't too much of a concern, but will the dead space make my feet colder?

Any advice would be appreciated. If you know of other good bags under $150, please let me know.

I have one from about 5 years back and have found that it does not meet its 30F rating. Maybe it is just me. I have already sent it in once to Marmot and they said everything was fine but I don't feel it. Maybe I just got a bad bag. I will send it back in so they can check it out, send it back and give me half of a new bag. All my other Marmot bags do great. If you can wait a few weeks I would sell it for $100. But for most stuff it is great in that it is a decent weight for the money and will keep me warm down to 35F.

I know I fit great being 6'5" in the long and I know a lot of people that are close to 6' have trouble fitting in the 6' bags. I would get a Marmot because their customer service is great. Don't talk to the reps but ask for warranty because those cats know all about the bags and can really answer any question.
