Since knitting fast and furious ( as in hundreds of basic beanies) causes me bouts of painful carpal tunnel….I now only knit for friends and family and for myself. I choose patterns that are a little more intricate and take longer . This cabled beanie was not difficult but working it on five needles required some concentration and slowed me down enough that I never even got numb. The small gauge wool was hand died and I had been saving it for a few years for the right project. It does not itch, the flap can be pulled down over the ears for added warmth and the colors, particularly in the evening sun, are just lovely. This might just be my new favorite backpacking beanie . :)

Thanks guys. Doug, the next one I make will have eye holes ;) That angle was the best to show the actual cabling on the hat.

"That angle was the best to show the actual cabling on the hat." Just wanted to ensure we can see your eyes, since as pretty as the hat is, we all know your eyes are even prettier. (and people say I don't know how to suck up/schmooze….)

Sweet looking piece Kat. I like the cable knit since if you combine it with the hood of a windjacket during very cold weather, it increases insulation a bit over a flatter/smoother knit.

maybe you could make cabling that looks like two eyes, looking backwards then, when a bear or mountain lion started to attack, it would get scared off

You know it's solid if you could wear it trail or town.

Nice work! I've always loved the look of cable knits, but that color really takes it to the next level! I would totally wear that.
